The Lives of Rescue Dogs
Volunteering with Herding Home Animal Rescue offers a hands-on opportunity to help save
and rehabilitate dogs in need. Herding Home is run entirely by unpaid volunteers, so 100% of our donations can go toward the care of our adoptable pets. Learn more about working breeds and the shelter crisis here in Central Texas.

Foster Volunteer
Provide a temporary home for dogs in need until they’re adopted. Fosters help socialize dogs, work on basic training, and offer love and care. All supplies and veterinary expenses are covered by the rescue. Read more.
Administrative Support
Assist with behind-the-scenes tasks, such as data entry, responding to inquiries, and updating records. This position is perfect for detail-oriented individuals who want to support from home.
Adoption Matchmaker
Work closely with potential adopters to find the right match. You'll help guide them through the adoption process, answer questions, and introduce them to dogs suited to their lifestyle. This role is for volunteers knowledgeable about dog behavior and love engaging with people.
Transport Volunteer
Assist with transporting animals to vet appointments, adoption events, and to their new foster or forever homes. Flexible schedules are available, and this is a vital role for helping dogs reach safety.
Photography & Videography
Capture quality photos and videos of adoptable dogs to help them stand out to potential adopters. Experience is a plus, but enthusiasm for showcasing each dog’s personality is what matters most.
Bathing & Grooming
Assist with bathing, brushing, and basic grooming to keep the dogs looking and feeling their best. This is especially important before adoption events or photo sessions, helping each dog put their best paw forward.
Event Volunteer
Help with setting up and running adoption events, fundraisers, and community outreach programs. Volunteers engage with the public, provide information about adoptable dogs, and assist with event plans.
Marketing & Media
Support our marketing team by creating engaging social media posts, designing flyers, and sharing rescue stories. This role helps raise awareness and reach new supporters and adopters.
Dog Walker & Lover
Provide daily exercise and enrichment for our dogs by walking them, engaging in playtime, or working on leash manners. This role is for individuals who love to be around dogs and engaging with them.

Where We Are Located
Herding Home Animal Rescue is located in Driftwood, TX—just 5 minutes from the Hays City Store. We are open 7 days a week, from 10 AM to 7 PM, by appointment only.
Age Guidelines
Volunteers of all ages are welcome! We believe everyone can contribute, but please note that responsibilities assigned to minors will be tailored to their age and experience to ensure safety.

Volunteering with us involves hands-on work with animals. Please ensure you have the physical capabilities to handle animals and navigate our land, including walking on uneven surfaces and doing work outdoors.
