Foster Program

At Herding Home Animal Rescue, our ability to save lives depends on our foster community. As a foster-based rescue, we can only take in as many dogs as we can responsibly care for on-site. Every foster home opens the door for another at-risk dog to be rescued, providing them with a safe and loving environment while they wait for their forever family.

  • Are all dogs at Herding Home Animal Rescue spayed/neutered?
Yes, all dogs are spayed/neutered before adoption unless they are puppies under a certain age. In those cases, adopters sign a spay/neuter agreement to complete the procedure when the dog is old enough.
  • Are all dogs microchipped?
Yes, all dogs are microchipped before going to their adoptive homes. This helps ensure they have permanent identification should they ever become lost.
  • Are all dogs vaccinated?
Yes, every dog is vaccinated according to their age before adoption. Puppies receive their initial vaccines, while adult dogs are fully up-to-date on core vaccinations to ensure they’re protected.
  • Are the dogs good with children?
Many of our dogs are comfortable around children, but each has a unique temperament. We evaluate each dog’s behavior and will indicate in their profile if they are suitable for families with kids. We’re also happy to discuss any specific questions you have about a dog’s compatibility with children.
  • Can I meet the dog before I adopt?
Yes! We arrange meet-and-greets for approved applicants so you can spend time with the dog and ask any questions before making a decision.
  • Can you hold a dog for me?
Unfortunately, we cannot hold dogs. We operate on a first come, first serve basis and plan meet and greets accordingly with approved applicants. If you are interested in a dog, fill out the application right away. If we are having an adoption event, we recommend arriving early.
  • Do you know the history of the dog?
Unfortunately, many dogs that we save entered the shelter as strays or were surrendered by their owners with little or no information. We do our best to include any information about their history in their profile if it is known. Otherwise, we will always report information about their personalities and health and training based on how they've done in our program.
  • What types of dogs do you rescue?
We specialize in herding breeds, such as Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, and Heelers. However, we often take in mixes and other breeds in urgent need, particularly those on death row at shelters. Our priority is to find each dog a safe, loving home, regardless of their breed.
  • How long does it take to hear back?
We receive a high number of emails daily and do our best to respond to them as quickly as we can. We will be in touch as soon as possible. Typically within 1-3 business days.
  • What is your mailing address?
555 Veterans Dr. Ste. 2458, Kyle, TX 78640, United States
